Crumble with apples: step-by-step recipe

The beloved, impeccable and multifaceted apple has given our table hundreds of wonderful recipes, among which new products from overseas countries are still appearing. Crumble, the famous dessert of English housewives, is gaining more and more popularity and taking on new forms and contents, having taken root in our latitudes. An ideal find for those who love baked fruits and cannot imagine a pie without a crispy crust, so we offer you several options for apple dessert.

Any crumble, including apples, is similar to the well-known pie with fruit filling, which was turned upside down, keeping all the juices outside the dough. This makes the top layer of the crumble crispier and allows you to more fully enjoy both the taste of the filling and the tender, non-soggy dough.

The word “crumble” itself is translated as “crush, sprinkle.” These verbs accurately reflect the technology of preparing the recipe. Apple crumble originally consisted of a base layer of apples, which were sprinkled with shortcrust pastry crumbs.

In a modern kitchen, a crumble recipe can include almost any fruit, berries and even vegetables. Moreover! For sprinkling, we now have at our disposal not only sand crumbs, but also oatmeal, muesli, coconut flakes, nuts, dried fruits and chocolate.

That is why the answer to the question “how to cook crumble” is unlikely to seem difficult to most housewives, especially since the cooking process does not require long standing at the stove and labor-intensive manipulations.

Let's start getting acquainted with the exquisite English dessert using a photo for a classic recipe.

Crumble with apples: an eternal classic

We need

  • Apples - large, hard, sweet and sour variety (!) - 2 pcs.
  • Sugar – 4 tbsp.
  • Butter – 2.5 tbsp.
  • Oatmeal (not instant!) - 2 tbsp.
  • Wheat flour – 2 tsp.
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 tbsp.
  • Salt – 1 pinch
  • Vanilla ice cream – 2 scoops for serving

How to cook

  • Mix half the sugar, cinnamon and butter thoroughly in a bowl.
  • Preparing apples: wash, peel and core and cut in half.
  • On each half we make longitudinal cuts - from the surface to three quarters into the depth of the pulp, i.e. without cutting all the way through.
  • Place the apples on a greased baking sheet.
  • Coat the apples with the butter mixture with cinnamon and sugar prepared earlier.
  • Cover the baking sheet with food foil and place in the oven preheated to 200 degrees. Baking time 20 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and place in the oven for another 10 minutes.
  • Thoroughly mix the remaining sugar, cinnamon, butter, oatmeal, flour and salt.
  • Leaving the apples on the baking sheet, open the pockets between the cuts and distribute the oat mixture evenly.
  • Bake the apple crumble for another 10 minutes. The photo clearly shows how easy it is to separate the apple slices and slightly deepen the mass, forming the top of the casserole:

Serving: It is believed that the crumble will taste best warm - with a circle of vanilla ice cream. However, many people note the dessert's universal suitability for serving cold and even unaccompanied.

Crumble is a traditional English dessert. Most often it is prepared with apples. This is, in essence, an apple pie, just a little different from how we imagine it. Apple crumble is apples baked under shortcrust pastry crumbs. This delicacy is prepared quite quickly and simply, but it turns out tasty and light. We will now tell you how to prepare crumble.

Crumble with apples

Ingredients:

  • apples – 300 g;
  • flour – 160 g;
  • sugar – 80 g;
  • butter – 80 g;
  • cinnamon – 1 teaspoon.

Preparation

Mix flour with sugar. Add melted butter and stir. It is convenient to do this with a fork. If the pieces are too large, you need to knead them. As a result, you should end up with crumbs. Cut apples (it is better to take sweet and sour varieties) into slices, cut out the core, and then cut each slice in half. Lightly grease portion baking molds, lay out apples, sprinkle with a little cinnamon, and place the resulting crumbs on top. Place the molds in the oven, preheated to 200 degrees for about 25 minutes. In the finished crumble, the apples are soft and the crumbs are crispy. This dessert is delicious hot, warm, or cold.

If this year's apple harvest is beyond praise, and you don't know what to do with them, bake desserts. We offer you a few more recipes: and.

Apple crumble is a very tasty dessert, popular in England. The basic recipe is incredibly simple: apples are cut into pieces, distributed into molds and baked under shortbread crumbs consisting of flour, butter and sugar. The result is a juicy and soft filling under a delicious crispy crust. And if you are not lazy and simmer the apples with butter and sugar in a frying pan before putting them in the oven, the dish will be even more aromatic and tender!

Apples are most often used as the base for crumble, but if you wish, you can prepare the dessert with pear, plum, cherry or a mixture of different berries. The “highlight” of the recipe is not the main ingredient itself, but its combination with sweet flour crumbs.

Ingredients for 5-6 servings:

  • apples (preferably green, hard) - 600 g;
  • sugar - 20 g;
  • butter - 20 g;
  • ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon;
  • walnuts - 50 g.

For the test:

  • flour - 160 g;
  • butter - 80 g;
  • sugar - 60-70 g.
  1. After cutting off a thin layer of peel and removing the core, cut the apples into large pieces and place in a bowl. To prepare crumble, it is advisable to take hard, sweet and sour fruits - then the dessert will benefit in taste.
  2. Pour 20 g of sugar into the apples, add ground cinnamon and thoroughly mix the contents of the bowl.
  3. In a dry, heated frying pan, stirring, fry the nuts for 3-5 minutes. After cooling, grind the nut kernels using a blender. There is no need to grind the nuts to a minimum crumb - just get medium-sized pieces.
  4. In an empty frying pan, melt 20 g of butter, and then lay out the apples mixed with sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Stirring occasionally, keep the mixture on low heat for 7-10 minutes. As a result, the grains of sugar should completely melt, and the apple pieces should acquire a golden hue. After removing from heat, add nuts to the prepared apple mixture and mix.

  6. Cut the cooled solid butter into cubes of arbitrary size.
  7. Add sugar and all the sifted flour at once.
  8. We begin to actively rub the mass with our hands until crumbs are obtained. Now the crumble dough is ready!
  9. Divide the mixture of apples and nuts into portioned containers, lightly greased with butter (the number of ingredients is designed for 5-6 small molds). You can cook it in one large container, but keep in mind that the dessert turns out to be very crumbly and you won’t be able to cut it like a pie; you will have to put it on plates with a spoon.
  10. Cover the apples with flour crumbs and place them in a hot oven.
  11. Maintaining the temperature at 200 degrees, bake the apple crumble for 20-30 minutes (until the crumbs are browned).
  12. The dessert can be served either warm or cooled. Apple crumble goes well with a scoop of ice cream.

Step 3:

Add lemon juice and cinnamon to the chopped apples.

Step 4:

We chop the nuts; in principle, you don’t have to add them at all, but they taste better and add a pleasant crunch to the filling. Add almonds to apples and mix. If the apples are very sour, you can add another spoonful of sugar, depending on your taste. The filling is ready.

Place the filling into portioned molds. There should be a lot of filling, as it will lose a little volume during baking.

Step 7:

This is how wet the crumb should be.

Step 8:

Sprinkle our crumbs over the filling. We bake our pies at 180 C for about 15 - 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 9:

Our pies are ready. Let them cool for a few minutes and serve. Bon appetit!
