Health is already a concept for medicine, and doctors long ago developed a special formula by which any person can easily calculate the maximum acceptable weight in terms of health. Schoolchildren are taught this when they undergo medical examinations. The normal weight of a person and by year, age, the table shows how much body weight changes over time.

People can be overweight, thin, and average. Of course, women try to find their ideal weight and maintain it. But first you should find out what it actually looks like. The normal weight of a person and by year, age, the table was developed by doctors; they look more at healthy parameters, uniform, full development than at beauty. So, how much should a person weigh?

Calculation of ideal weight by height

Currently, there are several formulas for determining normal weight. Of course, they are all arbitrary, since they do not take into account many factors, for example, the percentage of fat and musculoskeletal tissue. But, nevertheless, with their help you can calculate your ideal weight.

It is important to know that any calculation method is not suitable for teenagers under 18 years of age, elderly people (over 65 years of age), athletes, pregnant and lactating women.

One of the popular methods is to calculate normal weight using a formula based on a person’s height.

There is a well-known Broca formula: the height of a man or woman in centimeters minus 100. The result is the person’s ideal weight. For example, height 170 cm - 100 = 70 kilograms.

But it turns out that this formula does not suit literally everyone; here you need to take into account your physique and make adjustments for age. There are 3 main body types and depending on this the ideal weight is calculated.

  • Asthenic type (small build) - an elongated figure, i.e. longitudinal dimensions prevail over transverse ones: long limbs, thin bones, thin neck, underdeveloped muscles. People with this body type are not prone to being overweight. For the asthenic type, the ideal weight formula is: height in centimeters minus 110.
  • Normosthenic type (average build) - the body is proportional in size, muscle tissue is well developed, very often people with this type have an ideal, beautiful figure. Normal weight is calculated as follows: height in centimeters minus 103.
  • Hypersthenic type (large build) - people of this type have larger transverse body dimensions than normosthenics: wide and heavy bones, wide hips and chest, short legs. People of this type tend to be overweight. The normal weight formula for them is: height in centimeters minus 100.

If you have any doubts about what type you are, you can measure the circumference of the wrist of your working hand at its thinnest point:

  • for asthenics it is less than 16 cm,
  • for normosthenics - from 16 to 18.5 cm,
  • in hypersthenics - more than 18.5 cm.

It is allowed to adjust the calculated indicators depending on age: minus 5−10% of the calculated weight is allowed for people from 18 to 50 years old, plus 5−7% is allowed for people over 50 years old.

Quetelet index

This method is perfect for texture. The ability to estimate your existing weight. Not bad! After all, most methods of measuring only for the future suggest what to strive for later. And here is to assess the situation now. According to the method, you not only need to weigh yourself and then find the result in the table, but also find out the characteristics of your physique.

Quetelet index

Stand directly in front of a large, full-length mirror, pull in your stomach as best you can. Then place two middle rulers (you can use your palms) on the last two bottom ribs. It can be seen that they form their own angle:

• Blunt – large build (above 90 degrees); • Almost straight – normal; • Acute – lean.

True, another table will be needed here, but this method will take into account both age and existing body type. easy to use for any height, the main thing is to honestly assess the physique. Using the index, doctors can more easily determine the actual situation. There is obesity or, conversely, underweight.

For some reason, most people assume that the problem of obesity is a real evil that needs to be eliminated immediately. Now, the weight has “gone” by 10-15 kg more than the maximum indicated in the table, that’s it, it’s time to lose weight, and urgently. Women are especially worried, although men also want to look great.

Before starting any actions, you need to accurately determine your current weight, find out more about your figure and body type. Metabolism and existing diseases are clarified separately by the doctor. In addition to the usual visual examination, he will also need tests.

There are individual specialists who help people identify the problem of excess or lack of weight, then eliminate it without putting much pressure on the body at all. After all, in addition to obesity, there is also excessive thinness, which is also dangerous. And sometimes gaining weight becomes much more difficult than losing it. It’s really easier to remove what you have if you know how.

The details of measurements were studied in schools; this was either done by the school nurse, or the children measured themselves in some lesson. Girls are especially familiar with measurement systems. Waist or hip volume, chest volume for sewing skirts or aprons. Okay, sewing, but how do you even figure out your ideal weight? After all, people’s height is different, their metabolism is also different, and the weight of their bones is also different.

The total mass is not only made up of fat.

The total mass consists not only of fat:

• Weight of bones; • Weight of all fabrics; • Muscle weight; • Weight of organs; • Skin weight; • Hair weight (yes, hair also has weight, especially long hair); • A couple of grams are for clothing; • Weight of fluid, all, and blood and intracellular fluid and lymph, all; • Weight of food, nutrients; • Fat weight.

The majority of the actual mass of any person weighing himself is useful mass that cannot be removed. Fat makes up 10-20% and that comes from the last weight gain. Those who have recently gained weight or sharply lost weight previously had the same weight for many years.

Women are more likely to gain weight, for example, after childbirth. The child “takes away” part of the gained kilograms with birth, the rest the mother has to lose later herself. Some women complain that it is extremely difficult to return to their previous, girlish figure. True, there are cases when mothers, on the contrary, lost weight a couple of months after giving birth, and became even slimmer than they were before pregnancy.

Doctors always attribute such “weight jumps” to hormonal changes that have occurred within the body since the onset of pregnancy. Plus, the expectant mother ate more high-calorie foods, rich in minerals and vitamins, trying for the child. Not everything “wasted”; some calories “settled” in extra pounds.

It’s just that most women for some reason believe that pregnant women definitely need to eat “for two”, more, then they suffer from excess weight, and the last months are the hardest. No, “for two” is not necessary, sweeping away all the dishes offered by relatives. It is better to create a diet based on the advice of a gynecologist. Don’t forget about activity, walks, a balanced diet - this is more beneficial for both. And then, after pregnancy, you “shed” fewer kilograms.

Women are more likely to gain weight

For men, such hormonal “wars” are not threatened, except perhaps by teenage changes. Further weight will depend only on their diet, then lifestyle. Athletes, of course, weigh more because of the heaviness of their muscles. However, they have their own nutrition and tables for determining “sports weight”. Ordinary “peaceful” men need to rely on their tables. The height and maximum weight limits are indicated there. Or use the formula, fortunately there are several of them, there is a choice.

Follow the norms of vitamins and minerals to normalize metabolism and safe weight loss.

How to calculate normal weight taking into account age

There is an opinion that the ideal weight is the one we had at the age of 18 and it is advisable to maintain it for life. But the same life makes its own adjustments. Experts say that every 10 years the body’s energy consumption decreases by about 10% and, accordingly, every 10 years we add about 10% (5 - 7 kg).

Try to calculate the weight using this indicator. It does not take into account body types and gender of a person, but it does take into account age.

The calculation formula is:

  • body weight = 50 + 0.75 * (height – 150) + (age – 20) / 4

For example, let’s take a man or woman’s height 170 cm and age 53 years:

  • The ideal weight is: 50 + 0.75 * (170-150) + (53-20) / 4 = 50 + 0.75 * 20 + 33 / 4 = 50+15 + 8.25 = 73.25 kg
  • Bottom line: at the age of 53 with a height of 170 cm, a weight of 73 kg will be considered normal.

Table for calculating body mass index according to Ketle

Body mass index is a measure of a person's height and weight. This method of calculation is the most popular and is calculated using the formula: your weight in kg, divided by your height squared in meters.

Let's calculate using the example of a person with a height of 1.7 m and a weight of 75 kg:

  • 75 / 2.89 (height squared) = 25.95 and look for this indicator in the table.

Knowing the value of the coefficients, you can calculate normal weight indicators corresponding to your height. For example, we calculate the minimum and maximum limits of normal weight. For example, height again takes 1.7 m:

  • minimum limit - (1.72) * 18.5 = 53.5 kg; maximum limit - (1.72) * 24.9 = 72 kg

It should be borne in mind that this formula is suitable for people of average height:

  • men - 168 - 188 cm
  • women - 154 - 174 cm

If the height is lower, then the calculated weight is reduced by 10%, and if higher, then the calculated weight is increased by 10%.

Of course, this indicator does not take into account body types, gender and age, but due to the minimum and maximum limits, you can evaluate all factors and determine your normal weight.

Lorenz's dream

For a woman = (actual height, centimeters -100) – (actual height, centimeters – 150)/2

Then, for example, it will be: for a woman whose height is about 165 cm = (165-100)-(165-150)/2 = 57.5 kg will become that ideal weight! True, this formula is really only for women; it is not designed for the stronger sex! The meaning is quite expected. For 165 cm – 57 kg is normal.

Although some believe that the formula, on the contrary, is more demanding, wanting to “return” the owner to her ideal weight of 18 years, but for BMI (that body mass index) it is quite suitable. By the way, this formula is also not applicable for women who are taller than 175cm, so you should be careful here. Otherwise you will get 20 or 100 kg.

Calculation of ideal weight by waist to height ratio

It is considered ideal when your waist size is equal to half your height. But for a more accurate diagnosis you need to calculate the coefficient:

  • waist circumference in cm divided by height in cm.

We calculate using the example of a person with a height of 170 cm and waist size:

  • 90 / 170 = 0.52 and compare with the standards in the table.

Video on how to calculate weight online using the Dukan calculator

Pierre Dukan is a French doctor who developed a protein diet for weight loss. He also developed his own online calculator, allowing anyone and everyone to get an answer to how many kilograms they need to lose in order to have a normal weight.

I hope the information on how to calculate your ideal weight was useful to you. It's great if you've maintained your 18-year-old weight. But if you have moved away from the ideal over the past 15-20 or more years, you should not strive to return to it at any cost. Use these calculation methods, determine for yourself your normal, comfortable weight and strive for it.

Of course, these are not all calculation methods; there are others. Nowadays there are many online calculators on the Internet. But, no matter what calculation method you use, remember that if there is a need to lose weight, then you need to do it carefully, without harming your body. After all, rapid weight loss will remove not only fat, but also muscle mass and water, and this can be harmful to your health.

Health to you and your loved ones!

Body types

Physiologists distinguish three body types: ectomorphic (asthenic), mesomorphic (normosthenic) and endomorphic (hypersthenic).

  1. Ectomorphs
are people characterized by a thin build, narrow bones, long limbs and wiry muscles. Such people find it difficult to achieve in strength sports, since muscle development requires significant effort. Ectomorphs have a fast metabolism, their body burns calories very quickly, so it is more difficult for them to increase weight, in particular muscle mass, than for other types.
  2. Mesomorphs
are people with an athletic build and naturally developed muscles. It is not difficult for them to both gain and lose weight. Their muscles are well defined. Strength training gives quick results. However, fat accumulation occurs faster than in ectomorphs, so these people need to watch their calorie intake to stay in shape.
  3. Endomorphs
are people who tend to be overweight. If an enfomorph does not take care of himself, this will very quickly affect his appearance. Due to slow metabolism, fat accumulation occurs quickly. Mesomorphs have strong muscles, especially the thighs. They are often short in stature. The muscles are poorly drawn. It is more difficult for such people to lose weight than mesomorphs. When training, it is recommended to devote time to cardio exercises.

In reality, people who have a strictly defined body type are rare. Most people combine different types, for example, ectomorph-mesomorph and mesomorph-endomorph.

Is it possible to change your body type? Yes, with the help of a specially selected diet and training program suitable for your type. An endomorph is able to lose extra pounds and show others a good figure. An ectomorph can build muscle mass and demonstrate to others a strong, muscular body.
