Due to the high fat content and saturation with fast carbohydrates, nutrition experts do not advise overusing toffees. Otherwise, you may encounter an exacerbation of gastrointestinal diseases and excess weight gain.
Harm of toffee candies
The harmful properties of toffees include:
- the product is saturated with fast carbohydrates, which are quickly converted into fats, contributing to excess weight gain;
- due to the saturation of condensed milk, butter, and vegetable oil, toffees are not recommended for obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, exacerbations of cholecystitis, pancreatitis;
- Sweets should be avoided if you have diabetes, high cholesterol, or a tendency to edema;
- many manufacturers add chemically modified additives to sweets, which can cause gastritis and other dangerous diseases;
- toffee sugar removes beneficial substances from the body, including the minerals calcium, magnesium, potassium;
- sweets have an acidifying effect on the body, which can ultimately lead to the development of cancer;
- low-quality sweets provoke heartburn, flatulence, and bloating;
- Taffy is contraindicated in case of milk protein intolerance.
Of course, when I see such sweets, I immediately remember my school days, when my classmates and I saved the money our parents gave us for breakfast, and then went to the store to do some shopping. If my memory serves me right, at that time a whole kilogram of toffee could be bought for twenty kopecks. They were tasty and very sweet.
At the same time, it was enough for a long time.
And then I noticed that my wife was once again collecting a parcel for her grandchildren and putting packages of a variety of candies in it. Now there is no shortage and in stores you can find any product, both modern varieties of sweets and their classic predecessors. This is how a pack of Golden Key toffees, still produced by the Krasny Oktyabr confectionery factory, caught my eye.
Among other goodies, most of which were chocolate candies, this was the only package of toffees, and therefore I was not able to taste it. However, I didn’t regret it at all, and the reason for this was the text on the glued label. It informed the attentive buyer that this “Golden Key” contained whole condensed milk and sugar. Well, it’s not even bad for a start. However, that's where all the good things end. Next on the list are molasses, milk fat substitute and flavoring. That is, in these very simple candies, which we were crazy about in our childhood, there was still a place for the ubiquitous chemistry. To make products cheaper, the manufacturer replaced milk fat with modified and unmodified vegetable oils. And to give it an appetizing smell, the toffees were infused with Vanilla flavoring. Surprisingly, there were no preservatives or dyes, as well as no taste improvers.
Now I’m terribly interested, but in the old years, confectionery factories also used all these substitutions for natural products, but no one told us about this on the labels? Or, as many said, the chemical industry in our country was not so developed that all these additives were cheaper than natural ingredients? And another, no less important question - is it possible to buy real good toffees anywhere today? Even if they are a little more expensive, but without any harmful impurities? Or is this already incurable and sweet lovers will have to put up with flavorings and vegetable fats? Okay, they are still adults - they can read the label and refuse to consume such candies. But children don’t think about anything at all when they want something sweet. A very sad situation.

Some people don't know what the term caloric content of foods per 100 grams means, although it is crucial because your well-being depends on it. In this regard, in this article we will try to analyze this fashionable term in detail.
Calories are used to measure the energy value of food products. Having information about the nutritional value of any ingredients, we will have a chance to accurately calculate the calorie content of the dish that you decide to please, for example, your family.
Meanwhile, as a rule, having information only about the number of kilocalories present in food products, namely, 100% knowledge of the calorie content of products, is of course not enough, in addition to the calorie content of our menu, it is necessary to take into account their biochemical composition, this is: quantity fats, proteins and saccharides, as well as the presence of water and other important substances. In addition, you must always keep in mind how many kilocalories you spend during the day. The number of kilocalories that you can burn during the day usually depends on your activity during the day, the type of work (related to manual work or sedentary work) and your age.
Women, in general, can lose a couple thousand calories every day. Then, in order to increase the consumption of energy obtained from food, you need to exercise as often as possible and lead a sports lifestyle - skating, cycling, running, swimming, aerobics, dancing.
Standard saccharides that enter the human body with buns, fruits, cakes, and cookies disintegrate almost immediately, without even reaching the esophagus. Those that do not have time to be absorbed will accumulate in your body as excess fat.
Everyone knows that your body uses proteins and triglycerides to regenerate and grow cells. To provide the body with the required nutrients, you need to consume at least 400 grams of carbohydrates, 80 grams of protein and ninety grams of triglyceride every day. The body receives all these important substances from food, so it is better to know exactly their chemical composition.
It is important to know that different nutrients participate in the metabolism of our body at different rates from each other and, accordingly, awaken different feelings of satiety in a person. For example, the body prefers to spend carbohydrates, substances with easily digestible energy, mainly for current physical needs. The ability to store carbohydrates in the form of glucose, or to convert saccharides into triglycerides, is very limited. Therefore, carbohydrates, even with a relatively small amount of them in food, cause people to feel full, forcing people to stop eating.
Proteins behave similarly. The body does not form their reserves. Any processed proteins are sent either to replace polypeptide molecules in cells, or a small part for energy needs. A person cannot absorb a lot of proteins - there is nowhere to store them. Therefore, protein foods are also definitely satisfying.
